| 説明 | Melissa's Hope Orphanage cares for eighteen children, thirteen of whom are disabled. The wall surrounding the orphanage was destroyed by the earthquake, leaving the property open to flooding. The source of the flooding was a small drainage ditch in the road behind the orphanage which was filled with rubble during the earthquake causing it to overflow and onto the orphanage’s property. As the area lacks proper sanitation, the water entering the orphanage was polluted and posed a major health risk for the disabled children. Working with GRU, EDV engaged local and international volunteers to remove rubble from the drainage ditch and place over 100 sand bags along the damage to the orphanage’s wall. The volunteers also filled 100 additional sand bags for the orphanage’s staff to place as needed. The orphanage also hosts a small free school for local children and a Saturday community centre wherein all local kids are offered free food as well. These essential community services were also being compromised by the flooding.
