| 説明 | A glass of Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout from draft at the Founders brewery brewpub in Grand Rapids, Michigan.The Canadian Breakfast Stout is a 10,2% abv imperial stout aged in Kentucky whiskey barrels that had also been used by a maple syrup maker, before the beer was aged in them, thus providing the beer with both whiskey and maple syrup notes.The beer poured oily thick and pitch black into the glass, with a fine brown head. Aroma was sweet and very rich, with notes of oak, whiskey, fresh coffee and maple syrup. Yummy, this is a meal all by itself! Mouthfeel was awesome, full bodied, sweet, rich and silk smooth. Flavor started out on the sweet side, with caramel malt / molasses and maple syrup, but with plenty of fresh coffee and roasted malt bitterness to even the score. Notes of dark chocolate, oak, vanilla and whiskey added a multi-layered complexity to the beer. The aftertaste was very long, with bitterness slowly cleaning up after all the sweetness. Overall the beer felt surprisingly harmonic, despite its massive mouthfeel, and I could sense just the slightest hints of alcohol through a warming bite in the mouth. This is a great, world class, beer.It would have been interesting to taste the Canadian Breakfast Stout against the wonderful Kentucky Breakfast Stout at some point to find out what the difference is. |
