| 説明 | While I may not have succeeded in making an annular antiprism toroid, I do seem to have accidentally discovered how to use squares and triangles to make a dodecagonal helix! Some open questions remain: is it, in general, impossible to create a flat antiprism toroid out of a planar ring? Are all attempts to make such a thing doomed to form spiraling helices instead? Are simpler helices than the dodecagonal variety possible, or will they become degenerate? How does one increase or decrease the torsion (i.e., the "coil stretch factor") in these helices? What effect does extending the original planar rings--and thereby increasing the pitch--have on these helices? As a final note, I only recently encountered Alex Doskey's JovoToys Inspiration page, and in particular, the "Hex Antiprisms from Dodeca." object on page 9, which is a stack of the very rings I was trying to make in the first place! Doskey admits that there is a "slight cheat" in his model, but to be perfectly frank, I do not see how making the object was even possible. I mean, I was forced to let my structure grow out of its plane, and I was using flexible paper. He was using inflexible plastic.... |
