| 説明 | A Maori lumberman stands next to a newly felled tree. He is posing for the camera with his axe resting on the tree stump. In this snow-covered woodland, the only protection he has against the cold is a woollen cardigan. Whilst his lack of warm clothing might be do to with the warm work he is doing, it is also possible that due to the shortage of supplies at the Front he has not been issued with winter clothing. This photograph, most likely taken by John Warwick Brooke, forms part of a series showing lumber works behind the front line. Warwick Brooke also captured this man, possibly a member of the New Zealand (Maori) Pioneer Battalion, while in the process of chopping the tree down.[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE FRONT IN FRANCE. Forest Lumber Works - a fine cut by a Maori - this cut has not been trimmed.']digital.nls.uk/74548476 |
