説明 | General Plumer standing next to a group of nurses, France. This sun-drenched image shows General Plumer standing next to four nurses. He has just presented each with the Military Medal. Although a formal occasion, this is a relaxed and informal photograph. In the background a number of uniformed men look on. It is thought this photograph was taken by John Warwick Brooke. This is a good example of the type of positive image that was often used by the Government and Military. It would have fed into the propaganda machine on two levels - the depiction of a morale boosting scene combined with the original caption's negative portrayal of the Germans.[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE.
