| 説明 | Athletes engaged in pentathlon competitions: an acontist (javelin thrower) and two long-jumpers between two draped youngs, and a runner. The pentathlon consisted of the following five events:a) Running (distance = 1 stadion = 176 m. ca.).b) Jumping. This was a long jump performed with the aid of halteres (jumping weights: elliptical stone or metal discs), held one in each hand.c) Discus. The athletes all used the same discus, which was made of stone or metal and had a specific diameter and weight. It was thicker in the middle and thinner towards the edge.d) Javelin. The javelin was 1.5-2 m. long and the thickness of one finger. e) Wrestling. Scholars are generally agreed that the long jump, discus and javelin were not held as separate events in their own right, but only as part of the pentathlon competition.Attic red figured kylix 510 – 500 B.C.Manner of the Epeleios PainterFrom Vulci.Città del Vaticano, Musei Vaticani, Museo Gregoriano Etrusco, inv. no. 17856. |
