She painted clergymen, judges and other prominent citizens in Montreal from 1843 to 1847, executing this posthumous portrait of John Fletcher (1787-1844) in Montreal in 1845. A lawyer from England, Fletcher came to Canada in 1810 and began a practice in Quebec. In 1816, he was appointed commissioner to investigate disturbances in the Indian country, and in 1823 became provincial judge of the district of St. Francis. He died in Sherbrooke, Quebec. United States. His clientele included prominent political figures and celebrities. / Itinérante américaine, l'artiste est connue pour avoir exécuté plusieurs miniatures au Canada. Fletcher, avocat anglais, vint au Canada en 1810 et commença à exercer sa profession à Québec. En 1816, il fut nommé commissaire enquêteur relativement aux désordres en territoire indien et devint en 1823 juge provincial du district de Saint-François. Il mourut à Sherbrooke (Québec). |
