| 説明 | This is the holiday cottage we stayed in during August 2007.It is near a canal (the Rochdale Canal I think) and is off Rochdale Road.It was on a hilly area.Can't remember it's name though.These shots of the canal were probably taken out of the window from our holiday cottage.The 4x4 is a Suzuki Vitara.The local area might be called Warland.The building on the right might be the former toll house. Steanor Bottom Toll HouseIt is Grade II* listed.Toll house for the former 'Todmorden Turnpike Road'. Hammer-dressed stone,stone slate roof. 2 storeys, semi-octagonal in plan. 2 outer faces are blind.The 3 sides fronting road present a symmetrical appearance. Doorway has largetie-stones. Over is semi-circular recess of the same size as windows withprojecting sill and plain surrounds. Set within this is exact replica of tollboard, the top of which reads:' TODMORDEN TURNPIKE ROADSSTEANOR BOTTOM BARTolls to be taken at this Bar under theLocal Act: 1st & 2nd Geo. 4. cap.III.' Then follows list of tolls.Single light semi-circular headed windows to each floor, sashed with 16 panes.Return walls are watershot and have quoins. Gutter brackets and tripartite hipto roof. One dressed stack to rear which has single storey extension in keepingc.1980. A classic example of a toll house. K.
