| 説明 | "November 28, 1940Dear Dad:Received your letter sometime back, but as usual will have to blame too much work as my failure to answer sooner. We are on the eve of another departure to Hilton Head, but in spite of the miserable sojourn I spent there before, I rather welcome the thought of returning. Hilton Head may be the last outpost of civilization, the hunting ground of man-eating mosquitoes, and the lair of the blood thirsty sand flea, but any place, no matter how desolate, would be a veritable paradise after these past weeks on Parris Island. We will have to live in flimsy frame shacks, but after spending the last three freezing weeks in leaky tents, with nothing but two blankets and a smokey oil stove for warmth, those shacks will look, and feel, like mansions. The bathing facilities will be the same, and the food couldn’t be any worse. If we are lucky,"From the Edward L.
