説明 | For the object table I selected a gourd, a plant of the family Cucurbitaceae, the same family as the common pumpkin. More specifically my object is a butternut squash, a winter squash, the last one I acquired before spring bust into bloom this year. I chose a gourd because food is the cornerstone of culture and community. Food is a connection to our identity and heritage. The renowned gastrome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin in 1825 wrote, “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are”.Food also serves to keep the bond of community alive. When we gather around a table, we focus on the moment and commune with others, we connect to the deeper, more meaningful life force within us all. Family becomes closer, friends become family, and strangers become familiar, expanding the reach of the interdependent web of existence. Food nourishes us, nurtures us and stokes our spirits. Food provides the body with the means to access untapped potential to do great and meaningful acts and to better our community and the world.-- David Fairnak |
