| 説明 | Platyceras dumosum Conrad, 1840 - fossil gastropod in limestone from the Devonian of Ohio, USA. (field of view ~4.2 centimeters across)The gastropods (snails & slugs) are a group of molluscs that occupy marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments. Most gastropods have a calcareous external shell (the snails). Some lack a shell completely, or have reduced internal shells (the slugs & sea slugs & pteropods). Most members of the Gastropoda are marine. Most marine snails are herbivores (algae grazers) or predators/carnivores.The fossil in limestone seen here is a spinose platycerid, a famous Paleozoic group of gastropods that were coprophagous on crinoids. Platycerid shell shapes conformed to the shapes of anal pyramids on crinoid crowns.Classification: Animalia, Mollusca, Gastropoda, Archaeogastropoda, Trochina, PlatyceratidaeStratigraphy: Columbus Limestone, Eifelian Stage, lower Middle DevonianLocality: roadcut along Emerald Parkway, immediately east of the Rt. 257 intersection, Dublin, northwestern Franklin County, central Ohio, USA (40° 06' 34.79" North latitude; 83° 06' 35.73" West longitude)----------------------See info. at:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platyceras |
