| 説明 | Purple Toothwort (Lathraea clandestina)A low, parasitic perennial with a yellowish, btanched, subteranean stem forming tufts at the earth's surface. Scale-leaves stem-clasping, kidney-shaped, alternate or opposite, with bracts similar to scale-leaves. Flowers violet, borne in small clusters, with reddish purple lower lip 4-5 cm long, upper lip hooded. (Source:Field Guide to Wild Flowers of Southern Europe)The plant is a parasite on the roots of the trees. It is usually found under Salix (Willows) or Populus (Poplars) species in damp places and true enough this was near a small stream ... but I am not sure under which tree (I wasn't pay attention to the tree when I took this picture since I was more intrigued with the flower :) Only when I got home and search about the flowers in one of my wild flower books that I discovered the fact about this parasite plan) . But as you can see there are dried 'horse chesnut' or chesnut (?) near the plant ..... |
