| 説明 | Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack (left) and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency expanding the work of the AgStar program in Washington, D.C., Monday, May 3, 2010. EPA and USDA's enhanced collaboration will provide up to $3.9 million over the next five years to help farms overcome obstacles preventing them from recovering and using biogas. AgStar encourages the use of methane recovery (biogas) technologies at confined animal feeding operations that manage manure. These technologies called anaerobic digesters reduce methane emissions while achieving other environmental benefits. Since the establishment of the program in 1994, the number of operational digester systems has grown to more than 150 systems across the United States. This growth has produced significant environmental and energy benefits, including in 2009 alone, approximately 374,000 MWh equivalent of energy generation. |
