| 説明 | "Tom Slick and C. B. Shaffler first discovered oil near Cushing in 1912. Over the next eight years, the oil fields of Cushing grew to the largest in the United States reaching peak production in May, 1915, of 300,000 bbl/d. During WWI, Cushing's oil fields produced 17% of all oil in the United States and 3% of the world's oil production. By 1979, the oil fields of Cushing had produced over 450 million barrrels. During the past century, Cushing has evolved from a flourishing production center in the 1900s to a prosperous refining center in the 1920s to a thriving transportation center in the 1990s. At present, nine major oil companies operate 23 pipeline systems near Cushing with the capacity of storing 30 million barrels of oil in tanks ranging in size from 50,000 to 500,000 barrels. These companies maintain 3000 miles of pipeline and move as much as 1.5 MMbbl of oil per day.
