| 説明 | "One must be a corporal at the time the preliminary recommendation is made (In my case not later than Jan. 1, 1940) but on board ship you must hold your warrant of corporal for one year before it becomes permanent. The only way I could have made it was to have been “rated” last January, but you don’t make corporal, in the Marine Corps, four months after enlisting. In fact if a man is exceptional he might make it after two years. There are men on board the Pennsylvania who are just as good; if not better, soldiers than I, who are serving their second enlistment, and are still privates. The only thing I’d like to do now would be get a transfer to the Marine Barracks at Washington, D.C. before September of this year."From the Edward L. Parke Collection (COLL/5627) at the Archives Branch, Marine Corps History Division OFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
