| 説明 | "January 24, 1939.Dear Dad:Sometime ago Mrs. Hoover, then wife of the president, made a statement that all service men, particularly Marines, after service in the Far East, should be quarantined for a period of three years before being allowed to mingle with the inhabitants of the own country.Rumor, or rather Marine Corps legend, has it that this scathing denunciation was due to the fact that she, herself, was contaminated through intercourse with some unknown Marine, but that is neither here nor there. The point that I am trying to make is this. While her husbands administration will probably never make political history, the adoption of her suggestion, as a legislative measure, would have insured him an enviable place in the annals of the United States, and have been a boon to humanity as well. The Marine Corps and the Navy are rotten with venereal diseases, Since leaving Shanghai, twelve days ago, one hundred and nine men have reported to the sick bay with venereal"From the Edward L.
