| 説明 | "Story out here, she was directly related to the late Czar. These “White Russians” have had a pretty tough break. The Japs have run them out of Harbin and Mukden, if they attempt to go back to Russia the Reds will shoot them, so their last havens are Shanghai and Hong Kong. Quite a few of them marry American sailors. The rest, unable to compete with the Chinese as sales girls, and being unfitted for any other type of work, are relegated to a life as a hostess in a night club, and when they lose their looks and figure, to one of the various houses of prostitution, of which Shanghai has about 1,500.It’s a damn good thing I wasn’t stationed at Shanghai. I’d probably have married Galia. She certainly was beautiful. Coal black hair, about 5’3”, high, Slavic cheeckbones, gray-green eyes, spoke with a delightful accent, and carried herself like the countess she claimed to be. Oh well; just another milestone along the romance road of a lousy Marines, but I’ll be a long time forgetting her.Well Dad it’s almost time for me to close. Time is running short and my ink"From the Edward L. Parke Collection (COLL/5627) at the Archives Branch, Marine Corps History Division OFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
