| 説明 | Notes: a couple in an open roadster motor past the Woodford Academy on the Bathurst Road/Great Western Highway. The number 31 suggests a rally of some kind. Format: gelatin silver print 20.5 cm x 15.5 cmDate Range: undated, possibly 1950s, the road is in good condition and there may be faint visible transition zone from tar to gravel on the right and even a faint line marking on photo left. By 1939 the full length of the Great Western Highway was sealed and lined marked from Sydney to Bathurst, see link below. Dating on the building and garden may be a better possibility. The tree, a large Snowy Mountains gum, is thought to have been a sickly specimen of a number of trees donated by the Canberra Nursery for schools to commemorate the opening of the first Parliament House in 1927. As a councillor of the Blue Mountains Shire council at the time, John McManamey is thought to have rescued the tree and planted it at his ‘School for Boys’ – the Woodford Academy. It appears in numerous photos of the academy, and could easily be 20-30 years old here.Dating the car may or may not help if it's a veteran rally, unless the rally can be identified.
