| 説明 | Those nice purple heather hillsides you see are at their best when the heather is young, once it gets old and woody and tall nothing can eat it and it doesn't have much flower. The hillfarmers need to burn it every few years so they can farm sheep and grouse.Normally they pick a time when the conditions are perfect - wet ground but dry heather, however these moors are on the Otterburn Firing Ranges so they can only burn when the army aren't playing, and it was just a bit TOO dry this time. Added to which these moors are surrounded by conifer plantations, also a bit TOO dry.This adds up to a perfect photo opportunity and much excitement. |
