| 説明 | The Custis-Lee Mansion was begun by George Washington Parke Custis, in 1805. Custis was the grandson of Martha Custis, George Washington's wife, and was Washington's adoptive grandson. The house was later owned by Robert E. Lee, who became the best-known General in the Confederate Army. It had come to him through his wife, who was a great-granddaughter of Martha Custis Washington. Lee called it Arlington House. The property was taken from Lee during the Civil War. It was later returned to his heirs, who sold it to the U.S. Government. The house is now a memorial to Lee. |
