| 説明 | Damn, it's been a while since I've done a full length review! Now I've never been too fond of the Predator franchise. I believe Fox has been trying to make this B-film premise an A-list franchise ever since the first film hit theaters in '87. I feel as if the first Predator is as good as you can get with this premise, it's got the scares, the over the top action, and the one liners, but even then I wouldn't call it an amazing film. I don't think I wouldn't have even went to see this film if it weren't for Shane Black though, I'm just so in love with his style. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is great, but The Nice Guys is one of my favorite films of all time. He just knows how to right dialogue and make characters that will keep you energized, laughing, and invested in the story he's telling. With all that said, it's pretty clear I was super interested to see what kind of energy he could put into this franchise, but knowing the dialogue that he put into the original Predator for his character to say, I was still a little hesitant because I didn't think his character was all that funny in that film, just dirty for the sake of being dirty. Anyways, I just saw this film, here's what I thought.Good: One of the greatest aspects from the Predator franchise is back in this film, and that's Alan Silvestri score. Just that little bongo rhythm or whatever that is to tell the viewer that the Predator is one of my favorite little jingles in science fiction films like this, I was glad to see it back. Another thing I liked was some of the character's humor. Some jokes and the way they were delivered were classic Shane Black so I was glad to see some work, I'll get to the characters themselves later. Another thing that helps the Predator franchise with a modern installment is the makeup and affects on the normal Predator's suit was actually really sweet! Speaking of the normal Predator, I was having a great time every moment that normal Predator is on screen, it's too bad he couldn't just be the central focus of the film.Bad: This film is a complete narrative MESS. Not only from how the film was cut together, which made it so obvious that there were reshoots and the studio trying to rush Black to get to the "good" parts of the film, but it's also just a mess in terms of the script. A lot of stuff just happens like "they have a car now" or "the Predator dog just walks out of nowhere," and it was infuriated. There's also so many side plots and ideas thrown into this film that I just couldn't tell what this film was trying to be. Is it supposed to be a comedy? A serious thriller? Hell, there's even a pretty cool political commentary on our environment that they touch on for a second, but then just completely ignore for the rest of the film! I would've loved to have seen a Predator film only focuses the environmental concept that they tackle in this film, it would be such an interesting film! This film also falls into the "Jurassic World" syndrome where the characters in this film have no sort of arc at all, they're are just walking and talking "witty dialogue machines." All you can do is say what the characters do, but you don't get a quite good idea of who they actually are which is such a disappointment because I know how well Shane Black can write characters. Because you don't get a good idea who these characters are, there are no stakes in this film at all, ESPECIALLY when that Super Soldier Predator is introduced. There's something really cool when the Predator is a physical being on set, the kills seem a lot more satisfying, but when it's just some hulking CG beast, all feeling is lost in what is displayed on screen. Lastly, the last scene in this film is complete trash. I do not like the idea they're going for, and the visual effects in it were PS3 graphics.Overall, as a Shane Black fan, I was massively disappointed by this film. I just think Black should just stay away from blockbusters at this point. At least Iron Man 3 was still a good Shane Black film, even if it wasn't that great of an Iron Man film, but The Predator didn't even feel like a Shane Black film for the most part. For these reasons, I've going to give the Predator a 4.5/10. What's even more telling about how much I think this franchise isn't that great is that this might be my second favorite film that I've seen so far in the Predator franchise! They just need to leave this franchise alone for a while, then come back when someone has a really great and focused idea for the Predator, maybe, JUST MAYBE I'll be interested then. If you've seen the Predator, let me know what you thought about it in the comments below! |
