説明 | Photo taken from the outfield Woodside Mill Baseball Park, Simpsonville, SCHistoric Woodside Mills baseball Park in Simpsonville SC is named for Donald O’Dell “Red” BarbaryRed Barbary was a Textile Baseball League standout. His career in the textile leagues included: Simpsonville, Ware Shoals, and Southern Bleachery. He also was the manager of Ware Shoals from 1945 to 1950 and Simpsonville from 1951 to 1954.At the age of 22 in 1942 Red was a catching prospect for the Charlotte Hornets in the Piedmont League. When at the end of the season the Hornets manager told the team they could play any position they wanted. In a game against the Asheville Tourists, Red pitched and won a 22-inning game. Red made it to the majors in 1943 but would only make one pinch-hit appearance for the Washington Senators. |
