| 説明 | "December 24, 1939Dear Dad:Well here it is Christmas Eve and the good ship Henderson is tied up in Manila. As far as I’m concerned they can give the Philippines their immediate independence as there is nothing here to hold the interest of anyone in the entire United States.The liquor is bad and the women are worse. Prices and frightfully high, service is poor and the Marine is always wrong. If the meter one a cab says 40 centavos the driver holds out for 50 and when the law, in the person of a dirty little native, is summoned to arbitrate, he compromises and awards the driver 60 centavos. Perhaps they split later, but if the Marine raises a stink he is reported to his ship as “creating"From the Edward L.
