| 説明 | Oyster production levels are far behind what they used to be in the past, yet oyster leases are at an all-time high.An oyster lease is a plot of public water or land that is leased by the state for the cultivation of public and private shellfish, including oysters. Virginians can contact the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, who is responsible for mapping and surveying these grounds for use.Studying oyster production per lease, Jennifer Beckensteiner, a Virginia Institute of Marine Science Ph.D. student and Virginia Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellow, is studying why some of these leases may not be reaching their optimal oyster production rate. Beckensteiner will look into social economic variables and social attitudes associated with oyster leases and the growers who lease them. Sep 7, 2018. (Photo by Aileen Devlin | Virginia Sea Grant) |
