| 説明 | While Londoners mourn the decline of one of their most famous inhabitants, the cockney sparrow, the capital's resident wild parakeet population is enjoying rude health. There are up to 3,000 Rose-Ringed or Ring-Necked Parakeets (Psittacula krameri) in London, probably descendants of birds released or escaped into the wild in the 1950s and 1960s.There are a number of sometimes fanciful theories as to how parakeets, (indiginous to Asia), came to make their home here, such as the urban legend that the birds escaped from a container at Heathrow airport, or from Shepperton Studios in west London during filming of The African Queen in 1951. |
