Established way back in 1887 they became famous all over the world. Run by the Benneweis family dynasty, they also visited Aarhus every year, setting up their tent in Tangkrogen. But times were changing and audiences for traditional circuses declined in the new century. After a very disappointing 2015-season, Benneweis declared that they would not go on the road in 2016 and would instead try to "rethink" the circus concept. By the end of the 2018-season, they still haven't returned and the tent, plus many of the assets have been sold. Of course, one should never say never, but it's getting increasingly unlikely that they will ever return.The old Scania seems to have been aquired for the 2004-season. Like most of the company vehicles, it underwent annual registration/deregistration and lasted until the end in 2015, by then it was close to 30 years old!The 1984 Volvo F6 Turbo parked next to it, didn't quite make it to the end - it was retired by the end of the 2013-season. In other words, the "retirement age" only shows the age, at which the truck stopped running on danish license plates. |
