| 説明 | Steven Alfred Brinson earned six letters as a Fort Dorchester High School swimmer, including two as a middle-school student. He was co-captain of the team in 2008.Steven was a spirited FHDS “Patriot” – encouraging his teammates, swimming with his two brothers on relay teams, and often rallying to win in dramatic fashion. He once messaged Mayor Summey that North Charleston needed a competitive swimming complex, “….like Columbia or Rock Hill – but better.” And the mayor replied, “I agree, Steven!”As a young adult, Steven was an ardent outdoorsman, and enjoyed caring for “rescue dogs” and leading baby sharks safely away from the rising tides of area inlets. He was an artisan fisherman, creating his own colorful lures. Steven proudly graduated FHDS in 2009. In November, 2013, at the very beginning of his work career, he died in a tragic industrial accident. North Charleston and Dorchester District 2 will now have that “but better” competitive swimming complex. It will be a venue inspired by the collaborative spirit and leadership of a city and a school district - and by a competitive spirit displayed by Steven and the student swimmers who will use this facility.Photo by Ryan Johnson |
