| 説明 | (1 in a multiple picture album)This formation in Sego Canyon, UT, has a picture wall at the bottom. If you enlarge the photo you can just make out some of the petroglyphs carved by the ancients. But what is more interesting will be seen if you look up at the top and spot the raven sitting there. According to Native American legends the raven is believed to be a messenger of the spirit guard the secrets of the natives. The location of the Sego Canyon petroglyphs are not well known because its isolated location could allow people to go there who would deface the picture walls. When we got there and began to walk around I noted that this bird came and sat at the peak. I had the distinct feeling he was watching us. Several times he left the spot and flew in a circle above us, and then returned to his roost. He seemed to be warning us to respect the art. Some before us had not done so, and their destructive acts were, I knew, witnessed by the raven. I'm guessing that they paid for their error of judgement. As we walked to our car to leave, the raven flew away. He seemed to be calling back to us in his low, gurgling croak. I like to believe that he was saying, "Thank you for your respect of our past." |
