説明 | Was wondering if there was any other statues in Solihull, then I found out about this one in Malvern Park. It is of a Horse and its Horse Tamer. It used to be in Tudor Grange, the home of the Bird family (of custard fame). It was made by Joseph Boehm in 1874, and was originally in the gardens of Tudor Grange (which I believe is now on the grounds of Solihull College on Blossomfield Road).Captain Oliver Bird, High Sheriff of Warwickshire (son of Alfred Frederick Bird, son of the original Alfred Bird) bought the sculpture at auction and donated it to the Borough of Solihull in 1944 after his mothers death. It was presented to the council in 1953.Boehm made many statues that are in London, including the Temple Bar Monument (which I've got a few shots of) and the Duke of Wellington at Hyde Park Corner. There is a collection of busts by Boehm in the National Portrait Gallery. The statue is Grade II listed.Later C19 statuary group of horse and horse tamer on stone pedestal by Boehm.Statue of a Horse and Horse Tamer in Malvern Park - Heritage GatewayAlso known as The Horse and Horse Tamer Group. The statue has gone green, not sure if it is bronze. Also known as Prancing Horse and Man. |
