説明 | Many ugly tacky houses were built in Vancouver during the 1980s and 1990s. Most of them were built as spec houses, not designed by a professional architect, and as a result, they're some of the worst examples of postmodern architecture you'll ever see. The word "tacky" does not even begin to describe these houses. The typical shape is a square box with a hipped roof, but the real horror is in the details. Everything is amazingly cheap, faux and rediculous. Columns and quoins that are nothing more than silly immitations. Pink or peach stucco everywhere. A fake brick facade like the one in this picture would have been considered "high end" Believe it or not, but the house in this picture is actually one of the better examples from that era.Even though these houses are less than 25 years old, they're already starting to be torn down. Probably because besides being really ugly, they were likely poorly built as well. So on top of everything else that is just horrible about these houses, they're probably not environmentally friendly either since they're unlikely to last very long. |
