| 説明 | 4 of 5 stars for the new restaurant Shiki Japanese (aka Shiki Bistro). San Carlos is a nice small town with a great collection of local restaurants, Shiki is the newest on Laurel Street and fills a building that has been empty for at least 10 years (was an Rx). Totally remodeled to present a modern clean lined up-scale restaurant. Inside it is very large with a large full bar, a large sushi bar and a couple of secluded areas for groups. In the main room, it is all booths with a great look and feel. Again, clean and modern look. The plates have a modern slant to them (literally slanted). This visit was a "hey, let's try the new place". So we started by looking thru the windows and thought, hum, going to be $$. A review of the menu located outside the front door was a relief that the prices were on-par with other nice Japanese restaurants. So, in we go. Promptly seated and a server quickly arrived to as for drinks and starters. The menu is nice with a good selection of various items. Declaring it a Sushi night, we ordered a Shrimp Tempura Roll, some Sushi items and then a Nigiri and Roll combination. Food was quickly prepared and delivered. Good service and good looking. The proof is in the taste. Yes, very good. All-in-all a great experience. No real reason for giving only 4 rather than 5; I do know of a couple of places with slightly better food though less on the environment. As a sidebar, this is Shiki #4 and I am told there they have three others (2 in San Mateo, 1 in Half Moon Bay). Yes, will go back to Shiki often. |
