| 説明 | It is summer here & about 2 weeks ago we had a very hot night (32 degrees Centigrade +) after a day which was 43 degrees. During the night Minx became quite distressed, could not settle, went outside to toilet & also vomited. She was staggering, and her legs seemed not to be under control. Also she was going around in circles. I wondered if she had had a stroke. I stayed with her & tried to cool her down with wet towel, cool water spray etc, but was very close to taking off for the 24 hour emergency vet clinic when she managed to drop off to sleep. First thing next morning we were off to our local vet. Fortunately after he examined her he recognised the symptoms of 'ideopathic vestibular disease' . Apparently this is not uncommon in older dogs, and most usually recover in anywhere between 2 days and 2 weeks. Minx stayed at the vet all day, and when I collected her that evening, she was a little better. She went back to the 'day hospital' for the next 3 days, as they were again quite hot, and by the Friday (my day off) she was sufficiently well for it to be ok for me to leave her alone in the house.Each day she got a little better. First she was happy to eat from my hand, then from the dish. Then she jumped up onto her chair herself, then onto the sofa which is about 12 inches higher off the ground. Then she barked to be let in the front door after she had finished her meal (although I have to say the bark sounded as if she had been smoking all her life). Now she is completely better. No remaining symptoms.Even though I was reassured that she would get better, it was quite worrying - although nothing to what Paco has been going through. It makes you realise just how much you would miss them. Minx is quite old - she was about 8 when we got her in 2005 - so I don't know how much longer we will have her happy company, I just hope it is a long time, as she adds so much to our lives. |
