| 説明 | L-R: Jeremy Bissett (my cousin), my father (on accordion), and myself (on keyboards).According to the caption on the back of the photograph, it was the concert of 1998 (the very first concert I might add) and I was playing "Twinkle Little Star."Indeed, I had a brief stint with the piano between the ages of 6 and 7. I'm not sure why I stopped taking lessons.My very first instrument was an acoustic guitar when I was even younger, though I never learnt how to play it, I just strummed it blindly and got music. Or did I have lessons? I don't remember. Then my father approached me when I was five or six and asked if I wanted to learn music, and piano lessons were what I agreed to.I still don't know why I stopped. But I remember them. They were fun.A little history of those Christmas Concerts:They began in 1998 (with this photo) as a family Christmas function with all my cousins. There was a main play, then everyone did their own thing, like read a poem/story, or play a song on an instrument, or whatever. There might be another smaller thing everyone does together, like a song or carol, and that would be it. They would occur each Christmas, before Christmas Eve, at my grandparents.There was a stage with curtains, and often there'd be decorations and lights on the walls.Unfortunately, the whole concept sizzled out a year ago when Olesia, my oldest cousin and the writer/arranger of the majority of the main plays, opted out of writing it that year, which was understandable as she'd done the most work. As well, most of my cousins and I had grown out of it, and the subject matter of the plays were also maturing up to that point (from "Twinkle Little Star" in 1998 to a play using a Saturday Night Live basis, using sketches and pop-culture references, in 2008). Most of us are in our mid-late teens, and a few are bridging on adulthood such as myself and my older cousin Olesia. The idea of a Christmas Concert has come down to the few younger children left, such as my half brother/sister and my cousin Nadya who's only 2 years old. But those plays were fun, when we were young enough to enjoy/appreciate them.I'm about 7 years old there. |
