| 説明 | as long as i can remember the coastline between gorda and sandollar has been crumbling. this stretch of the road -- which starts just north of san simeon (where hearst castle is) is closed damn near every year after a big rain. the coastal range is a delicate thing.the part of highway one which snakes up the big sur coast was built by the WPO under the leadership of Roosevelt (god love him). It's called the Scenic Crawl because of the twists and turns. But truly, who needs to travel it quickly?When I was in high school, one of my friend's grandfathers (or great uncles?) was killed while trying to repair yet another landslide, as a Cal Trans worker. His tractor slid right off into the Pacific Ocean. I didn't know him, but I always think of him while driving up.I wonder how effective this fence is. I'm thinking not very. There were pretty big boulders sticking up out of the ground ready to do their lemming march about 100 yards up from the fence. |
