| 説明 | Every time it starts to get comfortable with its identity it has to change.Throughout lawsuits and company changes only the state outine has remained the same. Yet, it is a Portland icon and a designated historic landmark. In 1940 it started out as the "White Satin Sugar" sign.In 1957 it lost the "Satin" and "Sugar" and gained a deer. It became the "White Stag" sign, advertising the Portland-based White Stag sportswear company. It stayed that way for 40 years. In 1997 it kept the "Oregon" and the jumping deer, and added "Made in" and started advertising the "Made In Oregon" retail store.Times changed and there were threats of the sign being dismantled or moved. The City of Portland stepped in to save the sign and took ownership in 2010. Since then it has read, simply: "Portland, Oregon".(And yes, that is a bulb outline that you see on the stag's nose. Every Portland Christmas season since 1959 has commenced with the deer's red neon nose lighting up.) |
