ShookRemark: At far left is Ed Kosanke and at far right is Ewalt Kosanke. The Kosanke Funeral Home was established in 1882 by Ewalt Kosanke. Kosanke had moved to Kouts from nearby Wanatah in LaPorte County, Indiana, to establish a furniture manufacturing and repair business. When the local undertaker passed away, Mr. LePell from Valparaiso had to travel to Kouts to serve as the community's undertaker. LePell urged Kosanke to enter undertaking along with his furniture manufacturing business since Valparaiso was a considerable distance for LePell to travel to serve the Kouts community.Source:Centennial Committee. 1965.
