| 説明 | Rubbish overflowing street bins as a consequence of a "work to rule" in anticipation of a week long bin men strike. My street of once grand houses - each had a wealthy family plus servants living in the cellar - is now mostly onto converted multiple household properties, but with a huge social range.There is a hostel for the "Criminally Stupid" (whose friends shout "Brian" over and over again at 3 a.m. rather than ring the doorbell or just texting). There are also several people in very expensive flats who drive luxury and classic cars, and - even more impressively - can pay the insurance for on street parking. Most houses now have several flats in them. We all generate loads of rubbish, needing daily collections. Things start to unravel rather quickly if the service is disrupted as you can see. The stickers on the bins warn people not to sleep in the bins, which are automatically tipped into trucks. There have been a number of incidents - and one tragic death - seemingly caused by homeless / drunk people sheltering in the bins. Manual "bin checking" has apparently been stopped as a cost saving measure, the truck operators have to rely on cctv to ensure that no one is inside.... [Saturday, 7th November 2009] |
