| 説明 | timberline bluegrass, Poa glauca subsp. rupicola, California, White Mountains, Sheep Mountain, Fishlake Valley drainage, elevation 3615 m (11860 ft).Timberline bluegrass is distinctive in this area with its relatively tall stems with short, broad inflorescences (but contracting again in fruit), and spikelets glaucous purple, strongly compressed, and ovate. It is found in dry alpine settings from eastern California to northern New Mexico, northward to southwest Canada. The species to which it belongs (Poa glauca) is even more widespread, circling the northern hemisphere at high latitudes right up to the Arctic Ocean, and also found in Patagonia in South America.Also visible in this image is northern goldenrod (Solidago multiradiata). |
