| 説明 | In what is starting to become an annual tradition, I took my leftover Halloween-themed scrapbook paper and assembled it into a polyhedron using face-based modules. Because this object, too, is composed solely of squares and equilateral triangles (once you've decomposed the hexagons), the units I chose have not changed much from last year:* Black central hexagons: 24 Equilateral-triangular Flat Unit II modules (from Kunihiko Kasahara's Origami Omnibus, page 204.) Each triangle has 3 pockets and no flaps, so the triangles are connected to one another and to the squares that border them using 48 black joining tabs (which are in turn made from a one-eighth sheet of paper apiece.)* Green inner squares: 24 Square Flat Unit modules (from Tomoko Fuse's Unit Polyhedron Origami, page 8.) Each square was made from one sheet of plain light green paper (facing inward) and one sheet of green Halloween scrapbook paper (facing outward); the squares have 4 pockets and no flaps.* Green inner triangles: 24 Regular Triangle modules (from Tomoko Fuse's Kusudama Origami, page 70.) The triangles were made with plain dark green paper; each has 3 flaps and no pockets.* Purple outer squares: 18 Square Flat Unit modules, each made from one sheet of plain purple paper at the back and one sheet of purple scrapbook paper in the front. Note that 12 of the outer squares directly border the inner squares at nearly right angles, so they need an additional 12 joining tabs. These turned out to be the toughest and most troublesome angles in the whole project, so I recommend that you leave the 12 tabs detached until the end and have a toothpick handy!* Purple outer triangles: 16 Regular Triangle modules. All of their flaps slip into leftover pockets from the square modules, but often, one of the three flaps connects at a sharp right angle compared to the other two. Insert that flap first.The grand total comes out to 42 sheets of scrapbook paper, 106 sheets of regular paper, and 7.5 sheets of black paper for joining tabs. |
