| 説明 | Descending from the 10,000 ft. summit of Haleakala towards Kahikinui Forest Reserve, to do some plant, bird, and insect surveys.The weather has been pretty socked in up here much of the winter, with wind chill temps in the 20's. We were stoked to get a nice day.This fence was originally built in the 1980's to keep goats and pigs out of Haleakala National Park. Additional fences below this have recently been constructed on State property for the same purpose.The top barbed wire strand was removed, to prevent snagging Hawaiian Petrels and Hoary Bats that fly through this area at night. |
