説明 | The woman at right is one of the people who live in this house and were all uptight about spectators standing on their planters and accidentally damaging her plants. The husband, not pictured, was very flustered. We had no idea why such rich people would subject themselves to this. If I were them, I would have jetted off to Sausalito for the day and hired a rent-a-cop to fend people off. Or a rent-a-fence to keep people off the planters. Or just freaking relax and understand that with 50,000 spectators, some plants are gonna get some leaves stripped. The best though was the cops. Female officers were patrolling the sidewalk asking people to get off the planters. Male officers acted as spotters from the street. Definitely a good choice in terms of keeping things civil and de-escalated. But talk about some strange priorities from the SFPD. I guess all the drug dealers in the Mission agreed to take the day off in honor of the bike race, eh?Believe it or not, I somehow made friends with these people when I tried to persuade them to leave the area and let it go. Something about empathy and a handshake, I guess. The wife waved to me right after I took these pictures. Go figure. Any ally in a storm, I guess.Best quote of the exchange, from the husband, "Do you know how long it takes to grow a trellis like this?" |
