| 説明 | The next "day" we set off down the river again, finally getting into the slope reach that characterizes the northernmost and lowermost extent of the Firth. This is where we stopped to climb Engigstciak, the isolated hill that would be our last major detour on foot from the river. Here, the montane majesties that flanked so much of our journey have faded into the gently undulating tundra so similar to the North Slope in the neighboring sections of Alaska. The river itself is no longer the rushing teal torrent of Sheep Slot; here it has matured, widened, and begun to braid in preparation for its delta and final meeting with the sea. The scene is the sort of open sky and water expanse that always makes me mentally hear Coldplay's "Clocks".Cross-uploaded to Commons at commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Firth_River_in_North_Slop... |
