| 説明 | The station map in Baixa-Chiado station on the Lisbon metro shows the tunnels leaving the southern end of the station and heading to Cais do Sodré and Terreio do Paço - and another one, heading due south into the Navy headquarters and then stopping. You can see the junction of this tunnel with the Cais do Sodré from inside the trains. It can't be depot access - the area isn't big enough for a depot. So where does it go?The mundane but likely possibility is that it's just the access tunnel the boring machine dug to get to or from its launching or landing site in the grounds of the Navy HQ.A more exciting possibility is that it's a stub left for a future extension of the metro across the Tejo - it's under 2.5 km from there to Cacilhas station on the Metro Transportes do Sul (MTS), where there could either be interchange with that network (Hoboken-style), or through running (although the fact that the MTS is light rail makes this difficult).Could just be a secret station for the Navy top brass, of course. |
