Most of the mountain is composed of Tertiary-aged granite (McKinley Granite, ~56 Ma - ~Paleocene-Eocene boundary times), plus some contact-metamorphosed roof pendant rocks (mostly argillites). The latter were originally Cretaceous-aged fine-grained siliciclastic sedimentary rocks.Locality: Mount McKinley, Denali National Park, Alaska Range, south-central Alaska, USA (looking southwest at site ~58 air-kilometers from the summit; looking from ~63° 27' 25.40" North latitude, 150° 13' 44.31" West longitude) |
