説明St Helen's Church is on Fish Street in Worcester, just off High Street. It stands on the site of what was believed to be the earliest church in Worcester.It stopped being a church during the Second World War, and by 1956 it was the County Records Office.When the County Records Office moved to a new home in 2002 it's future was in doubt. C15, reputedly founded c1480, with later alterations including rebuilding of tower in 1813, with east end, refenestration and porch of 1857-63. Alterations of 1857 by Preedy. Limestone ashlar with concealed roof. 3-stage west tower, 5-bay nave and 2-bay chancel. Perpendicular interior with Gothic Revival to exterior. Entrance to south side in second bay, studded plank door in 4-centred surround with 2 orders of hollow chamfer, within tone and timber porch. Otherwise 2-light windows to nave and single-light to chancel with Decorated-type tracery to heads. Off-set buttresses between windows. Tower: pointed plank door to lower stage; second stage has blind oculus; third stage has 2-ogeed-light belfry openings; embattled parapet. East end: 5-light east window between 3-light windows with Decorated-type tracery. Buttresses to ends and centre have quatrefoil embellishment; embattled gable end. INTERIOR: piers have canted projections; double-chamfered arches to aisles and tall similar tower arch. Alabaster reredos of 1867 by Preedy. C18 and C19 memorial tablets. Fine monument to John Nash, d. 1662, with reclining figure set within aedicule with twisted columns to open pediment. Late C19 font, in Perpendicular style. County Records Office - Heritage Gateway
