説明 | Pha That Luang (Great Sacred Reliquary or Great Stupa) is a symbol of both the Buddhist religion and of Lao sovereignty. It is Laos' most important and spectacular monument. It is thought that missionaries from the court of Ashoka in India first set up a stupa on this spot in the 3rd century BCE. It was built to hold a piece of the breastbone of the Buddha. When King Setthathirat moved the Lan Xang capital from Lunag Prabang to Vientiane in the mid-16th century, he ordered the construction of Pha That Luang in its current form on the present site. |
