| 説明 | Once an Army Artillery School in the late 1890s through World War Two, Perry Point is now one of the Veteran's Administration's shining examples of a hospital that helps patients rehabilitate from the hopelessness of alcoholism. There are, as most informed people realize, various degrees of the sickness. Some might say it is simply a lack of character or a sign of moral degeneration. My opinion is that it is a combination of all it is said or thought to be. "The one thing I do know for certain, it is a blessing not having to remember where I left my fifth of vodka upon waking." Thankfully, I was not an everday drunk, just a drunk who chose which days were convenient to drink. During my daughter's school years, I remained sober, thankfully. Each individual reacts to alcohol in a most unique manner. I should have know when I took my first drink in the summer of 1950 that anything that made me feel so good had to be bad. I longed for the day when I could enter those businesses that had the neon cocktail glass with the bubbles inviting me to enter and share the good times. There were good times, I cannot lie, but the cost and the grief it caused far outweighed the temporal joys. Had I never taken that first drink, who knows, I might have been run over by a bus. All I can say is that the anxiety created by alcoholism has vanished and for the past decade I have enjoyed life as never before. |
