| 説明 | This is the main hall of the Confucian Yushima Seido, designed by the leading Meiji to early Showa era architect and historian Chuta ITO and built in 1935. I find this structure to be unusual - it is officially a shrine, but as it is a Confician shrine, it is in a Chinese style more associated with temples in Tokyo. The earlier shrine was also black, apparently; it was burned down in the 1923 Tokyo earthquake. This structure is concrete. |
