Hanbok for women usually consists of two main parts, a high waisted, floor length skirt, and a small jacket. These pieces can be extremely detailed, with beautiful embroidery, and rich fabrics. Traditionally, Hanbok are brightly colored, so that is why there is such a variation of colors amongst us. However, If you look at the girl in the bright pink Hanbok in the front, you will see a more modern Hanbok. Traditional Hanbok were not made in that shade of pink. In the past, Hanbok were also used to represent different social classes. The two girls standing in the back dressed in red, and blue, are dressed in Hanbok traditionally worn by royalty or Queens. The guy in the back is dressed in a King's Hanbok. Other things women traditionally wear with Hanbok include very detailed headbands, which you can see on our heads. It is also customary that women have their hair braided, and tied with a piece of fabric. The fabric tied at the end matches the color of your skirt. |
