| 説明 | pro73 - Emulation Assignment 03: Pete TurnerdWIT (detailed What It Took): I would have prefered that the lines in the wall were parallel to the frame, but the oblique angle needed to get the shadows and little windows prohibited this. I tried changing the perspective in PP, but the result did not look very natural. This is an updated (mid summer) version of this shot. I think the taller and blowing grasses add an element of motion.1. For this submission, I was inspired by Pete Turner’s Walls of Light series. I predict that his Americana series will also be a subliminal influence in my future shooting.2. What you like and/or don't like about Pete Turner's style? I found all of his work to strike a positive note. I am glad to be made aware of his photographs and his style.3. Your thoughts and/or thought process behind your assignment submission: I was drawn most heavily to his architectural shots and wanted to follow that path for this emulation assignment. The architectural styles common to the southwest United States are frequent subjects in Turner’s photos. However, this style is relatively rare in the extreme north-central part of the U.S. and necessitated some hunting for a subject. I remembered a picture I took last spring and returned to take another shot. By 6:35am the sun is too high for the small windows to be out of the shadows. This meant getting my butt out of bed in time, and having a sunny morning.4. How does your photo reflects elements of Turner's style? My effort was to capture simple architectural elements and bold colors; two components of many of Turner's photos.5. What did you gain as a photographer from studying Pete Turner's work? This Turner quote from a Digital Photo Pro article hit home nicely. “For me, the digital camera isn't very different from film. The thinking is the same—keep it simple; concentrate on the image.”Another month and another great photographer to learn about. The summer schedule of family, vacation, work, and home repair has left less time than I would like for digging in deeper to the assignment. The time that I did spend on Pete Turner was worth every fleeting moment. I look forward to the next assignment. |
